Sewing Lessons: Beginner Project- Eye Pillow (Part 2)

In this video you will learn the basics of starting a beginner sewing project. The project featured in this video is an eye pillow. Eye pillows are filled with flax seed and essential dried herbs like lavender, spearmint, chamomile, etc.They are easy and fun to make and they make great gifts! You will learn how to piece the front of your eye pillow using strips of three different fabrics and how to choose the silky backing of your eye pillow so it goes on smooth and relaxing over your eyelids. This video takes you from choosing your cotton fabrics to prepping your strips for sewing. This video (Part 2) learn how to finish cutting your fabric and prepare the entire project for sewing. See Part 3 to learn how to sew your eye pillow together, how to fill it with your herbs, flax seed, rice, etc., and also how to finish it off with a simple hand stitching technique known as a whip stitch.

Cooking from the Garden Soup

Showing how to cook in a therapeutic way using fresh garden products from the Gardens at Merritt College Landscape horticulture department. This is just a sampling of the type of cooking and tips that will be in my curriculum for a possible up coming class…stay tuned

Therapeutic Herb D’Provence Chicken Soup

Serves 3 (improvasational style, use the amounts you are inspired to use…no measuring required)

Parsley
Savory
Thyme
Marjoram
Rosemary
Lavender
Fennel seeds
Chili flakes

Zucchini
Spring onions (any onions will work)
Dino Kale (any kale will work)
Shiitake mushrooms
Rich veggie Stock
Dulse (any sea veggies will work)
1 pastured Chicken Leg
Sea Salt, pepper and vinegar to taste

-Collect and prepare all your ingredients before beginning cooking.

-Saute onions and carrots until beginning to brown, add just enough water to deglaze pan then allow it to evaporate while continuing to caramelize.

-add your stock, water, and chicken simmer for about 20 min. to soften carrots and cook chicken, then add remaining ingredients and simmer 10 minutes.

-Break up chicken in to smaller pieces with spoon, season to taste with sea salt, black pepper and vinegar. serve and eat with a smile ;-)

Some other options:
-Blend a portion of the soup and add back to the soup to rewarm for those with digestion issues.
-Add any cooked grains, rice or Quinoa go well.
